Sample - Festive Birthday Card (ft. Spellbinders) by Kreative Kinship

Posted by Marie Eduarte on

Hello crafty friends! Michele and Maureen from Kreative Kinship to share a happy and fun birthday card that we created using new dies from Spellbinders.  We just love how festive this turned out!  We have a lot to share, so let's get started!

We are always drawn to dimension and try to incorporate it into the projects that we create so it's no surprise (pun intended) that we immediately fell for the new Surprise Box dies and the coordinating Birthday Unboxing Sentiments from Spellbinders.  These cleverly-designed dies easily create the cutest dimensional box that can be “filled' with whatever strikes your fancy!  We wanted to create a fun birthday card, so we started by cutting the pieces of our surprise box from kraft cardstock.

The sides of the box front were stamped using black ink with the coordinating stamps from the Birthday Unboxing Sentiments set.  The parts of the box were folded on the score lines and the box was then assembled and adhered with liquid glue. To go along with the birthday theme, we used the Color Block Balloons die set from Spellbinders to cut several balloons from white cardstock.  We then used our Distress ink cubes and blending brushes to add some color to the pieces of our balloons.

Once the balloons were colored, we assembled them with some liquid glue.  We then tied varying lengths of white twine to each balloon base to create the strings.

We also cut some star confetti and streamers from the Topsy Turvy Cake die set from Spellbinders using various colors of glitter cardstock to add some sparkle to the elements that would be popping out of our Surprise Box.

For the sentiment, we chose yet another new product from the Spellbinders Birthday Celebrations Collection – The Stylized Happy Birthday Dies.  We cut the letters from turquoise glitter cardstock, and the shadow from vellum.

The glitter letters were adhered with liquid glue to the vellum shadow layer.  We also stamped the sub-sentiment on another strip of vellum with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with black embossing powder.  The sub-sentiment strip was notched at either end to form a vellum banner.

The background panel of white cardstock measuring 4” x 5 1/4” was embossed using an embossing folder run through our die cutting machine.

To assemble the card, the Surprise box was adhered with liquid glue directly to the dry embossed card panel in the lower right corner.  The balloons were arranged as if “popping out” of the box, and were adhered to the card panel – one with liquid glue and the other two with foam adhesive – varying the heights of the balloons for visual interest. The sentiment and sub-sentiment banner were adhered slightly overlapping the yellow balloon using small dots of liquid glue that were strategically placed behind the letters so the adhesive would not show through the vellum.  The glittery streamers were adhered as if popping out of the box along with the balloons.  Then the entire card panel was adhered to a mat cut from pink glitter cardstock measuring 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”.  The matted card panel was adhered to a white side-folding card base created from very heavyweight cardstock.

For the finishing touches, we adhered a sprinkling of glitter star confetti die cut pieces to the background panel using liquid glue.

We hope you like our fun and festive birthday card as much as we do!

Crafty hugs!

Michele and Maureen
