Although the applications are limited, you will never get a more crisp letterpress. It is amazing. It is uncomplicated and easy to operate.
I like the Betterpress and think I will use it often enough. I had archival inks so I used the archival inks and compared it with the Betterpress ink that it came with. I couldn’t tell the difference. I used 100% cotton Stonehenge 90 lb. Paper, 100% cotton Portofino watercolor paper (removing the shims) and the Betterpress paper. Again I couldn’t see a notable difference even though the sizing in the watercolor paper is supposed to be undesirable for letterpress. The impression was a tad deeper with the heavier weight paper. Bottom line I think the Betterpress paper is nice, but not any nicer than some of the other art papers I use. And of course, I did what we were all told not to do - I used hot foil plates, removing the shims. They do leave a slight shadow on the platen, but so did the letterpress plates. I can’t figure out how it damages the device. Maybe someone will tell us why Spellbinders is telling us not to use the hot foil plates. I did use the Betterpress plates on the hot foil system and it was really nice. I do believe I will purchase Betterpress plates for the detail opposed to the hot foil plates in the future and use on both devices. - I would recommend the Betterpress, and beware of using hot foil plates - only at their own peril since Spellbinders said you can’t.

Never before did I get a new system to try out and … open the package, briefly review the instructions and just do it! But I did just that with the BetterPress in literally less than 5 minutes! Really! The results are phenomenal! So beautiful and so professional looking. My only regret is that I can’t buy anything more because it has just about all sold out! Can’t wait for the new stock to come in! Hurry!😎
