Lawn Fawn You Are My Sunshine Card by Heather

Instructions:

I started by stamping the mama duck and the jumping duckling from the Lawn Fawn set Rub-A-Dub-Dub, using Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink on solar white cardstock, then cut them with the coordinating dies. To color the duckling, I used Y11 and Y15 for his body, and Y21 and YR23 for his beak and feet. I used the same Y21/YR23 combo for the mama duck's beak and feet, but only used W0 to add small shadows to her body. The finishing touch was a tiny dot of black glaze gel pen to help their eyes stand out. I wanted these main characters to be bright against my dark background.

To make my cloudy sky background, I gently brushed white pigment ink onto medium gray cardstock in several layers, using the Lawn Fawn Cloudy Stencil as a mask.

I used the largest Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackable die to cut the background down to 5" x 3.75". I then used the same medium gray cardstock to cut all three clouds from the Lawn Fawn Spring Showers die set, and brushed white pigment ink onto the bottom of each cloud.

To make the grass, I cut medium green cardstock with the Lawn Fawn Simple Grassy Hillside and then the same large Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle, so that the bottom and sides would have the same stitching as my background. I used my blender brush to add Pine Needles Distress Oxide Ink to the top of the grass for a little dimension, then adhered it to my sky using my Tombow Mono Dots adhesive.

To make the puddle, I took Lawn Fawn Pearlescent Vellum and cut the big pond shape from the Bayou Backdrop die set. The resulting puddle was wider than my card base, so I cut it again using the same Small Stitched Rectangle so it would fit with my grass and sky background. To adhere it to the grass, I added small drops of Lawn Fawn glue on the back of the stitched lines, to help avoid large dark patches on my finished project. I used my Sakura Gelly Roll Medium White gel pen to add details to the puddle, using flat oval shapes and gentle curves to make it look like ripples of splashing water for my ducks. While I had the pearlescent vellum out, I also cut several raindrops from it, using the same Lawn Fawn Spring Showers set that I used for the clouds.

From the same medium green cardstock as my grass base, I cut the small grass pieces and cattail bases from the Lawn Fawn Stitched Pond Frame set. I added details to the blades of grass and cattail stems using my YG17 Copic Ciao marker, adding lines and "v" shapes to shade individual leaves. I cut the cattail heads from dark brown cardstock using the same Stitched Pond Frame set, and glued them to my cattail bases using the Lawn Fawn Glue Tube. I added tiny dots of detail using my E37 Copic Ciao marker. I layered them in front of my puddle using the Glue Tube.

At this point I used my Tombow Mono Dots roller to adhere the panel to a card base I made from dark charcoal cardstock.

For the sentiment, I used the words "You Are My" from the Lawn Fawn Smooth Sailing stamp set and the scripty "Sunshine" from the Lawn Fawn Hello Sunshine set. I used VersaMark ink to stamp them on dark charcoal cardstock that I had prepared with my EK Success powder tool, then embossed it with alabaster embossing powder. I cut the "You Are My" sentiment using my paper trimmer to make the edges straight, and fussy cut the "Sunshine" sentiment with a small border.

For final assembly of my card, I popped up the clouds, ducks, and sentiment using black foam squares from Scrapbook Adhesives. I clustered the clouds at the top of my sky, but allowed them to hang over the edges of my stitched background for a whimsical look. The ducks were centered side by side in the puddle, and the sentiment went between the clouds and the ducks. As a finishing touch, I used small dots of Glue Tube to adhere my pearlescent vellum raindrops all over the background, tucking a couple behind the clouds and sentiment to help tie all the elements of the card together.
I hope you enjoyed this card and tutorial, and I especially hope that it inspires you to make fun projects of your own!
