Spellbinders Hummingbird Garden Folio

Spellbinders Hummingbird Garden Folio

Posted by Raquel Sanchez-Krohn on

Hello crafty friends!

Today I’m coming along with a super special project showcasing the Hummingbird Garden collection from Spellbinders. This bundle includes the large Hummingbird Garden 3D folder with two matching dies, as well as matching stencils that will help you color the gorgeous images with ease. I will be pairing it with A Little Message Sentiments, also from Spellbinders Paper Arts.

I was inspired the “zumbadorcito”, or “Esmeralda Puertorriqueña” (Puerto Rican emerald), a hummingbird of my country Puerto Rico, celebrated for its intense green and blue feathers, and a symbol of bravery and resilience.

Using the 3D embossing folder, I was able to add the gorgeous image to a piece of 300gsm watercolor card, as well as an additional pair or hummingbirds cut with matching dies. Adding a small touch of removable tape runner, I was able to secure the smaller papers onto the 3D folder for perfect results.

Once my images were ready to color, I used a variety of Ranger Oxide inks and small brushes to blend the inks with the help of matching stencils. These are numbered and very easy to use. To create depth, I blended each color gradually using Spellbinders brushes in gentle swirling motions. Using a small brush, I applied clear Stellar Paste to the blooms and wings of the birds for a gentle glow, and finished these with white highlights using a Nuvo gel pen.

For the vibrant background I used Raspberry Bliss ink and very carefully used the 3D folder a second time with the same card, The results are a vibrant and textured background with a linen-like pattern that looks just like fabric!

Using the Betterpress system, making the sentiment was a breeze. This system allows you to place all sentiments onto the press at once, and in seconds you have professional results that are clear and crisp! Watch my video for the easy steps!

Finally, to make use of the large panel, I trimmed the edges, applied double sided adhesive, and attached it to a folded base that measures 5 5/8” x 8 ¾”. Next, I attached the hummingbirds using dimensional adhesive. The result is a beautiful folio that I can use to keep important receipts or small notes. I hope you like it, and that you subscribe for more projects like these!

Be inspired, Be Blessed!
