Spellbinders Starry Holiday Collection by Dina Wakely

Hey there, crafty crew! 👋 Welcome back to the ScrapbookPal Blog!

I’m Deepa from @deezinesbyd, and today I’m sharing a festive and modern holiday card featuring the Spellbinders Starry Holiday Collection by Dina Wakely. Holiday cardmaking is one of my favorite ways to dive into creative play, and this sweet design combines texture, shine, and a touch of whimsy—all in one cheerful project!

This card is extra fun because it highlights a bold mixed media background paired with soft, pastel coloring on the focal images. The combination creates that perfect balance of playful and elegant. If you’d like to see the entire process step by step, be sure to check out the YouTube tutorial linked below!

To begin, I created the background using Distress Spray Stains in rich jewel tones. The layered sprays add shimmer and depth, which I accented further by dry embossing the panel with the Stars and Fronds Frame 3D embossing folder for instant texture. It’s such a simple way to make the background feel full of holiday magic without overpowering the focal elements.

The star of the show is, of course, the bird perched on a festive ornament from the Merry, Merry, Merry Bird set. I letter-pressed and die cut the image before adding soft pastel shades of purple and teal to the ornament, paired with gentle coloring on the bird for contrast. This sweet duo instantly brings a whimsical charm to the card.

To finish things off, I added a playful sentiment banner — “merry, merry, merry!”—tucked above the focal point as if being exclaimed from that cute birdy, along with a scattering of sequins and gems for just the right amount of sparkle. These little details tie everything together and make the card feel truly festive.

In the end, this holiday card came together as a bold yet cozy design that captures both the magic of Christmas sparkle and the sweetness of handmade charm. I love how the textured background pairs with the modern pastel coloring—it feels fresh and fun while still celebrating holiday tradition. I hope this inspires you to get an early start on your own festive creations this season!

Have a Great Day & Happy Crafting!
