Happy Holidays!
I know, you're doing a double take because you haven't even ordered your first pumpkin spice latte for fall and we're on the blog with holiday cards!
But, trust me, this project is going to help jump start your holiday cardmaking and get you ready well ahead of the holiday rush!
Spellbinders has a creative and festive new line of stitched dies that allow you to make poinsettias, holly, holiday sweaters and trees. The dies are versatile, as you can use them alone or with the stitching feature.
Begin by choosing cardstock colors and die cutting your individual die cuts. I chose the traditional red and white for the poinsettias and green for the leaves.
For this first card, we're going to use the outline dies without the stitching. The dies cut these beautiful petal shapes and the centers of the flowers. Assemble your flowers and adhere with
glue.
For the card base, cut a piece of white cardstock 6" x 8.5", fold in half. Choose a coordinating patterned paper and cover about half of the front of your card. Align the poinsettias along the edge or scattered. Stamp a sentiment and adhere to the bottom of your card.
Now, let's start stitching! The dies in the set each have a stitching die that you can die cut and add tiny stitching holes. Die cut the holly leaves and set aside.
For the stitching, Spellbinders recommends using two strands of a six strand DMC Floss or DMC Diamant Metallic Thread and a Size 22 Tapestry Needle. Follow the outline of the holes and stitch the details into the leaves.
This creates such wonderful texture and added dimension. Adhere your holly leaves to a card or tag. Add a holiday sentiment to the top of your project.
And, just like that, you have two, adorable holiday cards before the first sign of the holiday rush!
Happy crafting! Mary Jo
