A Little Valentine Fun With Love Puns

A Little Valentine Fun With Love Puns

Posted by Simeen Batra on

Hi crafty peeps! It's Simeen, from @simeen-creates. Today’s card features the Catherine Pooler Love Puns stamp and die set, and this one started the way a lot of my projects do… with color.

Whenever I get a new stamp set, I don’t always jump straight into a layout. Sometimes I just want to play, and picking a color combination first helps get the creative juices flowing. With Valentine’s Day almost here, I went with one of my favorite combos for the occasion: Sea Glass, Pink, and Peach. Soft, sweet, and just happy colors all around.

Building the Background

I started by creating the background and knew right away that I wanted to use several of the images from the Love Puns set. To give them a place to shine, I die cut three circles and backed each one with cardstock in my color combo. It added just enough interest without feeling busy—always a win!

Stamping, Coloring, and a Little Dimension

Next up was stamping. I used Memento Tuxedo Black Ink since it plays nicely with alcohol markers. I’m still working on improving my coloring skills, so I kept things pretty simple and stuck to colors that matched my Sea Glass, Pink, and Peach cardstock. No fancy techniques here—just fun, stress-free coloring.

After coloring, I die cut all the images and popped them up with foam squares. I love how a bit of dimension instantly makes a card feel more finished and brings everything to life.

Keeping It Simple

At this point, I went back and forth on whether to add another sentiment. But sometimes a card just doesn’t need it. There’s something really beautiful about white space, so I decided to keep things clean and simple. To finish it off, I added a few gold embellishments for a touch of sparkle and shine.

This card was such a fun reminder that you don’t need to overthink the process. Start with colors you love, keep the design simple, and enjoy the creative journey.

Thanks so much for stopping by today—I hope this card inspires you to pull out your favorite stamp sets and have a little Valentine crafting fun! 💕✂️
