Colorful Lovebirds Card (with Catherine Pooler Designs) by Kreative Kinship

Posted by ScrapbookPal Inc on

Hello friends! Michele and Maureen here from KreativeKinship to share a colorful card with lots of texture using some new products by Catherine Pooler.  Let’s get started!

We chose the adorable pair of birds from Catherine Pooler’s new Lovebirds stamp set to be the focal point for our card and stamped the image using a waterproof ink.

The birds were colored with a fine-tipped paint brush using Distress ink. A small amount of water was used to help blend the colors together. The birds were cut out using the coordinating die.

We cut two panels from 80lb white cardstock.  The first panel, measuring 5” x 7”, was embossed using the Loops embossing folder.  The second panel, measuring 3.75” x 5.75”, was cut using the stitched hearts cover plate die. Because this panel was longer than the die, it was necessary to shift the panel on the die and run it through the die cutting machine a second time to get the pattern imprinted onto the entire panel. The second largest stitched heart die was positioned on the panel and run through the die cutting machine. The inside of this heart impression was cut out using scissors to create a heart-shaped window in the panel.

A panel measuring 3.75” x 5” was cut from 80lb white cardstock.  Distress Oxide inks were blended onto this panel horizontally so that there was a smooth transition between colors.

We wanted the colors on this card to coordinate, so we ink blended scraps of 80lb white cardstock using the same Oxide colors as well as the orange Distress ink used on the birds. The floral dies were cut from each color and assembled with liquid glue.

The ink blended panel was glued to the embossed 5” x 7” panel with liquid glue.  The heart panel was adhered on top using foam squares.

The “hugs” word was cut once from the same ink-blended purple cardstock used to cut out the flowers and twice more from white cardstock. These three layers were stacked and glued together with liquid glue and then adhered to the vellum shadow.  The small sentiment was stamped onto white cardstock and cut out with scissors so that the third line of the sentiment was eliminated.

The birds were adhered to the center of the heart window with foam squares.  The flowers were arranged and adhered in place with liquid glue and small foam squares. The “hugs” word was adhered below the heart window with liquid glue and covered in Glossy Accents to add shine. Once dry, the small sub sentiment was adhered with foam squares and the finished panel was adhered to a side-folding 5” x 7” card base with liquid glue to complete the card.

We hope you enjoyed our project and that it inspires you in some way.

Crafty hugs!
